Dragon Themed Activities and Books

Do your kids love dragons? Mine do too! Our favorite is Bubbles the Bubbles Blowing Dragon. If you’re not familiar with him head over to the book section and check out his series. I wrote this series as a way to inspire, comfort, and encourage my youngest daughter and I hope it does the same for your kids.

You see when my youngest daughter was 4 she was having a problem with staying asleep and having bad dreams. She would often wake me up at 2, 3, or 4 am. I would make up these stories to help her get back to sleep. I have a secret though. I decided that if I was going to be making up stories in the middle of the night, I would put her brain to work as she fell back asleep.

One of several purposes of sleep for children at least, is to help them make sense of the things they are learning, to help them connect more complicated ideas. So the first story is about conflict resolution. Bubbles himself is simple a character that provides a sense of safety as she works through these issues. Dragons after all are very ferocious, what can stand a chance against a dragon? Hold up though, I didn’t want to scare her, so my dragon breathes bubbles, and she learns that problems often have more than one way to be solved.

Night after night she begged to hear about Bubbles, then slowly we transitioned to her telling me about her adventures with bubbles the night before. All told we had over a dozen stories, and we picked best 3 to turn into picture books for you to share with your children.
