Perfect for hot summer afternoons, planning a chicken themed unit study, or just enjoying a quiet afternoon with your child, this puppet craft turns storytime into playtime—and opens the door to thoughtful conversations.
✂️ What You’ll Need:
- Yellow paper bag (Optional other colors) (5.1 x 3.1 x 9 approximately)
- color printer and paper (cardstock)
- scissors
- glue
- 1/2 inch googly eyes
- Optional-markers or crayons
🐥 How to Make Your Little Golden Hen Puppet
1. Print and Cut
Start by downloading the template below, then choose your chicken and print the appropriate pages. I suggest printing on cardstock for longer life
2. Put Together the Chickens Head and Face
- Glue on the red comb to the center top of head
- Then glue on the orange beak, to the lower center of the head
- Before the beak glue dries tuck in the red wattle and glue down (the wattle is the red tear drop shaped piece)
- Glue on the eyes
- Last, glue the head to the bottom of the paperbag, making sure to not glue onto the main body of the bag
3. Attach the Wings
Cut out the wings and glue to the back of the bag
4. Optional Tail
If you chose to add tail feathers, glue them onto the back of the bag, making sure you can see them from the front and that the colors can be seen from the front, usually this means the colored side down.
5. Decorate
Add feathers, glitter, gold paint, or just draw on fun details with crayons or markers.
