Summer Boredom Buster Series: Create Your Own Board Game
Kids love board games, but do you know why? They want to be included, they want to do something with you, or their siblings that keeps attention on them (the game them, in a child’s mind if you’re playing with them, they your attention is on them.) Yay, I know tantrums happen and kids don’t like to lose, but they need to learn the coping skills for losing somewhere and in your home with you is probably better than at the soccer field.
That desire for your attention is at the root of this boredom buster. This is their chance to make something and have a captive audience later. (que maniacal laugh) Seriously though, kids love to play games and making a board game will help them learn lots of skills, like making rules, art, problem solving, etc.

What you need:
- A board examples:
- large poster board
- cereal box cut open
- 16×20 mixed media or water color paper
- A report board
- Game Pieces
- Blank Index Cards
- art supplies of your child’s choice
- Pencil and Paper for writing the rules. (A Printable Game Rules Page is now available in the Free Resources Library)
