A Book to Encourage Curiosity in Our Children

Children seem to be born curious, they start out watching everything and quickly move to putting everything into their mouths. It is that curiosity that leads to imitating everything they hear and see. From a developmental stand point curiosity is the most fundamentally important thing to nurture. If only that same curiosity didn’t lead some scary moments.
Safe Exploration
Of course we need to discourage darting out into the road, and touching hot things and fire. Teaching safe exploration and boundaries are still important. Kids need to tell us were they are going and who they will be with, that is basic safety. Using and remembering safety protocols is still important. Just be mindful, that in your efforts to keep your children safe, not snuff out that since of wonder and curiosity that is so wonderful in children.
Books are great examples
My newest book has a conversation with a curious little panda. The Little Panda just wants to see more of the world than the view of bamboo and more bamboo that was little panda’s everyday life. Use this book and other books about curiosity to open un conversation about safety and exploration of the world around you.
In “Little Panda, What Do You See?” Little Panda is so much like a child with a goal. The narrator is represents the parent or caregiver following along. Ask questions, show interest but let the child lead from time to time. Children learn so much when we let them explore without our direction. If a tall tree makes you feel unsafe, then find a safe way to let a child see up high, its okay to set boundaries, just don’t set them so tight that you snuff out the adventure.
Who knows maybe you’ll rediscover your own childhood curiosity! Explore On!
