Printable Paper Bag Flamingo Puppet for Storytime Fun
Paper bag puppets are a hands-on way to bring book characters to life. With practical hands on learning combined with hours of fun imaginative play you get more than a few minutes of craft time with this project. Add in this sweet book all about the question ‘why?” into the mix and you have the perfect helper for tackling real life questions with your child without the stress and ackwardness of a direct conversation! After all kids may seem like they have no filter and no problems with asking the hard questions, the truth is, they often pick up on our cues on what makes us uncomfortable, and that just makes things harder.

Materials Needed:
- White paper bag (for the puppet base)
- Blue feathers (optional)
- Googly eyes
- Color Printer and cardstock (for face, beak, and neck)
- Printable Template
- Markers (optional)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Feathers or Glitter (also optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Base – Turn the paper bag upside down so the flap becomes the face of the Flamingo.
- Print and Cut – Print out the template. Once Printed Cut out the pieces.
- Glue the Pieces– Glue down the large oval first. Make sure you only glue the head to the bottom of the bag and glue the beak so that it over lays off the, head, then line up the inside of th mouth under the flap so its only seen when the flamingo ‘talks’.
- Add the Face – Attach eyes.
- If printing the white template, use the markers to color the flamingo.
- Add any optional bling – Glue on the feathers and any thing else the child wants to add.
- Let It Dry – Once everything is set, your little flamingo puppet is ready to play!
📖 Storytime Tie-In:
The Little Blue Flamingo, is a conversation story that asks why the little flamingo is blue. But it is really her quest to understand herself and how she fits.
As you read:
- Talk about how much the flamingo’s are really alike and how little difference their really is.
- Explore the ideas of outside differences and inside differences.
- Explore the positives and negatives of differences (we don’t want to lie about this, it can make children feel even worse if they are struggling), but always land on how God can use all things good and bad, for good.
