Summer Boredom Buster Series: Get Creative with Wood Scraps
Kids love to reuse and recycle and this one is a great way to give purpose to scrap wood. The beauty of this one is that it doesn’t matter what size or shape yours craps are, they can be small or big, you get to make the limits. A large scrap board can be turned into a welcome sign to lean near the front door, smaller pieces can be placed on mantels or shelves, or hung on the wall.
I’ll try to add more idea samples as my kids and I finish up our stash of wood scraps. Don’t have wood scraps? Ask around I bet someone you know has them, or even ask in the wood department at home improvement stores, sometimes people get wood cut and leave their scraps behind. The same with paint, if you don’t have any, ask around, I bet you’ll find friends with left over paint they will happily give you. Or of course just go buy a small selection at the craft store (it may not be recycling but it will till be a fun creative outlet for your kids.)
What you need:
- scrap wood
- sand paper both fine and rough depending on your scraps
- paint
- paint brushes
- paper plate
- cup for water
- Pencil (optional)
- stencils (optional)
- Paint pens (optional)
- wall hangers (optional)
Directions:
Make a plan, find a saying, a stencil or freehand your idea. Be as creative as you want. If you don’t like it, paint over it and try again!
