Summer Boredom Buster Series: Solitaire or Patience Card Games

Solitaire or Patience games are a great way to encourage quiet time when a child has outgrown nap time. It teaches kids about following rules, and recognizing and practicing patterns. Can you tell I love these games? I played them growing up and I am passing them down to my kids to play.
It’s important in my house that my kids have ways to entertain themselves, that don’t rely on electronics. I believe in moderation, so I’m not anti electronics, we just don’t rely on it. Okay, I believe this, my kids in true kid fashion would hang out on the couch with the tv on, and a gaming device on, claiming to be watching/playing both. Ugh, this mom shuts it down. In our house its from 10am to 4pm, and if I can get them away from the house, then access is limited my that (yes I’m sneaky like that).
Okay, so no electronics, I’m not going to be responsible for entertaining them olid 6 hours. So I keep a deck of cards with me. At the park and the kids friends leave before my friends leave= cards, too hot to run around=cards, bored=cards. I know I’m making this sound over simplistic, but we truly keep a pack of cards with us when we leave the house and have several around the house at all times.
What do you need?
Any standard deck of cards. Remove the jokers. In a pinch you can even make a set of cards using cardstock. To make it even easier for you I made up a simple set of cards. Need a deck now? You can find a printable set in my Free Resource Library. Just sign up for my newsletter to get access.
