12 Days of Christmas Ornaments – Day Three is for Felt Ornaments!

Did you see Days One and Two in this series? If not, you can find them listed on my Series Page. Day One was Snow People, Day Two was Gnomes.

A quick recap, this year I decided we could make a themed tree that is ALSO full of sentimental value and ditch the filler ornaments for good. My youngest cheered, already though her enthusiasm is waning. She doesn’t want to be set to making a certain number of ornaments, so I may have to rethink that element.

Follow along, and maybe be inspired to make a few new ornaments yourself.

3D Felt Ornaments

We actually started a variation of this last year, it was her introduction to sewing. That blue one in the middle has her picture sewn into one side. This year I decided smaller might be better. And they small size is 3 inches long and fits perfectly with the snow people and gnomes, while the 4 inch and 5 inch versions seemed oversized.

What you need:

  • Pattern (sign up for me free newsletter here, to access the pdf of this pattern and many more free printables)
  • 8×10 felt
  • embroidery thread
  • craft thread
Directions:

Print the pattern pieces, I recommend heavy cardstock if you have it. Pick the size ornament you want, and cut out 3-5 pieces from the felt of your choice. If you want to embroider a design do so now. Then, stitch together along one side, then the next side with a new piece until the last side you stitch to the first side.

Other Felt Ornaments worth mentioning:

We are totally making these as well! – https://www.delineateyourdwelling.com/diy-felt-ornaments/

I love this, but the layers made it beyond my daughter’s ability. We will revisit this in a year or so! – https://weefolkart.com/wool-felt-christmas-ornament-pattern
