A Hands-On Storytime Activity: Little Fox Paper Bag Puppet Craft
Paper bag puppets are a hands-on way to bring book characters to life. With practical hands on learning combined with hours of fun imaginative play you get more than a few minutes of craft time with this project.
Whether your making one puppet or a dozen this craft is sure to please kids young and old alike.

Materials Needed:
- Red paper bag (5.1 x 3.1 x 9 approximately)
- color printer and paper
- scissors
- glue
- googly eyes
- Black marker or crayon
- (for the mouth)
- Stapler (optional)
Instructions:
- Download and Print Templates
- Cut out all pieces
- Glue the oval hamburger style to the bottom of the bag *the part that makes the flap when folded)
- Glue the white tree shape upside down on the body of the bag so that the head slightly overlaps it.
- Then glue the earpieces together into a stack as shown.
- Once the ears are dry, glue to the top of the head as shown.
- Glue on the white face piece on the bottom half of the oval.
- Glue the last triangle (muzzle) in the middle of the white face piece. Pointy side up.
- Glue on the black nose piece in the top point of the muzzle.
- Attach large googly eyes.
- With Marker draw the mouth
- Stack the tail, the biggest piece is the bottom, Glue on the light smaller piece so that they line up along the bottom and one side.
- Glue the white tip on the end of the tail.
- Glue the tail to the back of the bag.
📖 Storytime Tie-In:
Little Fox’s Day in the Snow is a bedtime poem, illustrated and written to help bring a day to a close. Bedtime stories are more than just reading a book in my house. Its a time to reflect and discuss how the day went and what to look forward too in the day to come. You might use the puppet to help tell the story, or ask your child to tell you the story, even if they are too young to actually read. Making the puppets during craft time, reminds a child of those precious moments when you take the time to make them the focus.
As you craft:
- Ask if your child remembers what book the fox is from.
- Can she remember anthing about the story?
- what was her favorite part?
