12 Days of Christmas Ornaments – Day Ten How to Make Elves…

We had a great weekend, and hung our new ornaments on our tree. This turned out to be a great idea because it showed my daughter how much room we still have for more ornaments.

Today we are getting creative with Elves. I have some wooden peg clothespins that where calling out to be used. So that is what we did. Then, like many things we create, when we thought we were done, we weren’t. Something didn’t look quite right. We had forgotten to give them arms! After a few minutes we decided to use pipe cleaners for arms, and to give them each something to hold. That was it! Now they looked perfect, festive and fun!

As the last touch, we ended up with four ornaments because the ‘littlest elf’ is being held my her ‘mommy’. I’m good with that. I hope you and your kids have fun with this project, and would love to see what creative touches you ad…

What You Need:

• Wooden Clothespin’s
• Acrylic Paint
• Paint brush
• Markers
• Felt in varies colors
• Pipe cleaners
• bells, or boxes (optional, things for the elves to hold)
• Hot Glue Gun
• Thread and needle to hang the ornament.

Directions

First, choose your paint and paint the body and legs of your clothespin. Leaving the head unpainted, unless you would like to paint a ‘skin’ color. Let dry completely.

Second, cut your felt pieces. a rounded triangle shape out of felt for the hat, little pointy tear drop shaped pieces for ears, and a collar if desired.

Third, cut your pipe cleaner pieces. Two Pieces about 1.5 inches long for arms, and two pieces about 2 inches long for shoes (if desired).

Next, glue your pieces together. Take the rounded triangle and make a cone for the hat, glue it to the ‘head’, and glue the ears in the correct position. Glue arms onto the slanted part under the head, and glue the ‘collar’ over the arms and around the neck. Glue on the shoes to the bottom of the legs.

Gently bend the arms to hold the gift, or bell, glue into place.

Use the marker and draw on a face.

Last add a thread hanger to hang your ornament!
