12 Days of Christmas Ornaments – Day Nine How to Make a Reindeer.
After yesterday’s talk, and some realignment of my own expectations we had fun making a herd of reindeer to decorate our tree.
I think crafting with kids is super important for their learning and development, so much so that I wrote a post about it. You can read about that here.
Then, I promptly forgot my own advise and got caught up in making the perfect ornaments to post about. Thankfully my kids are great at keeping me grounded!
So our reindeer might not look like someone else’s idea of a perfect, but they are perfect for us. With my new mindset, my daughter and I both had fun making these, I hope you do too.
What You Need:
- Wooden Clothespin’s
- Acrylic Paint
- Paint brush
- Markers
- Googly eyes
- 1 inch Pompom’s for head
- 1/2 or 1/4 inch pompom’s for muzzle
- 0.2in (teeny tiny) pompom’s for nose
- Pipe cleaner for horns
- Felt or ribbon (optional to make a bow)
- Hot Glue Gun
Directions
Paint the clothespin if your going to paint them. I added white for the chest, my daughter made a pink one, dark brown would look great too. Any color works for leg warmers.
After the paint dries, use a dark brown or black marker and draw the line for the legs. Then glue the main head pompom to the clothespin. I glued them to the clip end so that they can be clipped to the tree without needing to had a hanger. Glue on the muzzle and the nose. Add glue to the googly eyes, even if they are sticky, trust me you want the glue. Clip the pipe cleaner and glue behind the head.
Last add any extra trim like a ribbon.
